Reading-club questions for “Signal from Kepler-9 — Illustrated Sci-Fi First Contact”
This page belongs to a per-story series the machine publishes for reading clubs: six discussion questions built from what "Signal from Kepler-9 — Illustrated Sci-Fi First Contact" itself is about — SIGNAL FROM KEPLER-9 by Daniel Jaimes - Illustrated Short Story - Science Fiction “The message is real. The countdown has started.” WHAT YOU… Print it, paste it into your group chat, or use it to argue with yourself on the commute home.
The six questions
1. The opening line sets a rule for this world. What is the rule, and who breaks it first? 2. Signal from Kepler-9 — Illustrated Sci-Fi First Contact keeps one detail hidden longer than the others. When did you notice, and did it change your reading? 3. Which character made the only decision you would NOT have made — and were they right? 4. The illustrations answer questions the text does not ask. Pick one image and argue what it adds. 5. Where does this story sit: horror of the mind, of the body, or of the house? 6. The ending closes a door. Write the one sentence you would add after it — then defend it.
Running the session (20 minutes, no homework)
Everyone reads the free Part 1 first (that is the machine’s gift to clubs: proof before purchase). Ten minutes on questions 1-3, five on the illustration question, five on the ending. If the group splits, the complete story costs $2.99 per reader and settles the argument with the real finale.
