How do you read short stories well?
Read one at a time, not three in a row — a short story needs its exit to echo. Read the ending twice: the first for the turn, the second for the clues. And read aloud once if you can; the sentence is the instrument.
In one sitting (the practical version)
Twenty minutes is a complete reading unit: commute, coffee, last light. Pick one story tonight from the free shelf, give it the twenty minutes, and let the ending sit overnight — that echo is the form doing what only it can do.
